Hiking, mountain biking and off-road motor biking.

Exploring of Yuzhno outskirts might be extremely exiting as wild woods right up against the city. That gives favourable conditions for hiking, mountain biking and off-road motor biking right off the city.

On suburb hills you can find extensive net of pathways suitable for all sorts of off-road activities. The way goes up and down, constantly changes direction and divides on brunches. Outskirts of town adjacent to hills lead to such paths. Your journey can start right off Pobeda square, where you ascend to the stadium and follow the trail over the hill.

Another recommended itinerary is the old Japanese road with breathtaking views. It starts from Detskaya Street, park area, goes by Mega Palace hotel then by cafe "Stary drug" (Old friend) and then goes straight into the forest (don't follow the asphalted turn to Santa hotel). The road leads over mountain pass to the Coast of Okhotskoye Sea. This journey takes 5-7 hours on bike one way. But you can always turn back in the middle of the way.
The hills and woods just behind Zima (Sakhalin Energy's living camp) and in the adjacent "Tourist Valley" offer extensive opportunities for hill walking and mountain biking as well.

You can purchase mountain bike in one of specialized sport shops in Yuzhno but available choice isn’t too big. If you are advanced cyclist looking for bike with special features you’d better bring it from home.

Diving

Diving at Sakhalin isn't really popular due to short summer and cold waters. However there is a diving club available, which can provide you with the all required equipment, as well as take care of organizing your diving.

Paragliding

The adjacent hill (Gorny vozdukh) provides great opportunity for paragliding. You can drive up the hill (there is unpaved road leading to the top) or choose more relaxed way by the ropeway. From the top of the hill you can witness a breathtaking panoramic view over Yuzhno to the mountains across. There is local paragliding club which can organize tandem jumps with instructor or single jumps after getting required trainings for beginners.

Horseback riding

There is recently opened club of horseback riding named "Golden mustang". It is located in half an hour drive from the center of Yuzhno. Horses graze on the big field where you can choice one and ride on it around the field. One hour of riding costs 400 rub.

Golf

Golf club "Olimpia Park” locates 15 km south of Yuzhno on the Korsakov’s highway. Under 90x60m dome there are 18hole mini putt, simulator golf and golf field using for soccer, American football and baseball games as well.

Carting

Go-cart track"Virazh” is available in the Gagarin Park with prices from 250 rub for 5 min to 350 rub for 10 min.

Paintball

There are two paintball clubs in Yuzhno " Legion” and "Scorpion”. They provide the all required equipment for players and organize games at the specially prepared for that purposes place in the suburban forest.
